“Devoted to

the Moment”

~ story behind the work is below~

November 2023

When I am rushing to get somewhere on time, my kids are stopping to look at rocks and flowers in the cracks of the concrete. They make time for their curiosity and delight in their environment. I’m happiest when I make time to be curious, when I’m connecting with the people I care about, and using my senses to be present.

While working on these paintings I tried to notice the smell of the jasmine plants and roses I used for references. Listening to my paint brush in water, seeing colors blend to create a mood, feeling the texture of moss, stone, and leaves, all helped me transcribe these into meaningful compositions about a moment.

“The senses don’t just make sense of life in bold or subtle acts of clarity, they tear reality apart into vibrant morsels and reassemble them into a meaningful pattern.”

― Diane Ackerman, A Natural History of the Senses
